Welcome to the re-launch of Comfort for the Apocalypse - a (now bi-monthly) mailing that includes essays, book notes, recipes, and photos of textile projects.
I am in the process of moving to Substack (from TinyLetter), and you can find the archives of my monthly mailings from 2019 and 2020 here. If you subscribed to me on TinyLetter, you are subscribed to me now on Substack.
Though I faltered in the last half of 2020 (no shame here), what you can expect in 2021 is a monthly mailing sent on the last Friday of every month that contains a personal essay, a recipe, a note about what’s happening in my textile studio, and some suggestions for reading or listenings that support a wider understanding of the times we live in, and how we might support each other in them. On the second Sunday of every month, you will receive a “mini” version that contains some elements of the main mailing - a comforting recipe or a book recommendation.
If you haven’t met me before now, my name is Megan Adam and I am a writer, maker, and fiddle-player on Gabriola Island in British Columbia.
My essays and poetry explore themes of resilience, community interdependence, and the healing power of the wild. I am formerly an eco-radical and co-founder of the anarchist technology collective Resist.ca as well as a number of other Vancouver-based activist projects. These days I find refuge in Zen Buddhism, power lifting, and throwing the most excellent parties (when conditions allow). Though I continue to believe in a better world, my focus is on sharing tools and techniques for surviving this one.
Sign up now so you don’t miss the first issue of 2021.
In the meantime, tell your friends!
