Yay! I saw Chris was playing on Mayne. So glad you got out to that show. I've seen so much good music lately and we are starting to book shows at our house again - so it's all song all the time around here to counter the bad times brewing.
It does take some work, and I feel like I still have a long way to go - I'd like to shed Facebook in particular - but the two best things I've done lately are pare back Google from my life and ditch Amazon altogether.
Yeah FB is hard—family, old friends knitting groups etc. I haven’t posted in about a year and I definitely don’t miss it. I don’t keep myself signed in—have no idea if that makes a differences to the FB overlords—but it makes me feel better.
Thanks Megan - as always, I find your writing inspiring, mobilizing and soothing. The step by step is very helpful, and just the support I needed to get started on my own de-ggleing. Recipe looks delish too!
Thank-you! As a part of the radical tech collective I mentioned in the newsletter, I did a lot of teaching about Internet security and using open-source software back in the day. I had left all that behind as I moved on to other concerns, but it suddenly seems a lot more relevant again!
Good to see your "this is what I have been up to" email, Megan. I applaud your skills in dealing with the digital world. Changing my passwords can be a challenge for me! Small steps in my own community is where I am comfortable. Onwards and upwards in our attempts to defeat the beast in the South!
Thanks for sharing the details about cleaning up your footprint. It can be overwhelming to disentangle our lives from the services led by those so easily willing to bend a knee to curry favour and power. I cut off Meta products for the most part, severing my only practical ties to a distant side of my family, loosing small windows into their worlds. Google is more challenging for me. But it needs to be done, and describing one's steps to get there is really helpful, so thanks again.
thank you for the step by step! i am also working towards de-g00gling my life
Leaving Google has been intimidating, I've used Google Drive for so many years. MY daughter switched to Proton, so maybe I can too.
Thank you for your insightful newsletter Megan. It's like a cool sip of water on a scorching day!
Comforting and satisfying.
We thoroughly enjoyed Chris' concert here on Mayne! He's a wonderful performer and a great friend of my daughter in law and my son!
I hope you're able to enjoy frog song on Gabriola!
Cheers,
Gin

Thanks for the info! I’ve wanted to figure out how to detach from the big tech bros but didn’t know where to start. You’ve given me a road map!

Oy yoy yoy. Should I ever attempt this massive undertaking, I'll know where to come for instruction. God give me strength.
Thanks for this guide Megan. Something I will start working towards.

We all do a little of whatever we can do and it adds up to a lot. Community organizing is where it’s really at as far as I’m concerned!
