I used to regard myself as a Taoist Unitarian back when we were being encouraged to “build your own theology” based on what moved each one of us most deeply. Over the years, I have moved on to Anglican, Presbyterian, Reform Christianity (Kierkegaard). Still, in the archaeology of my self-built theology, the first habitation level remains Lao Tzu. It is the essence - the eternal form - upon which sit the subsequent appearances.
Dear dharma sister, thank you! As usual, I enjoy your offerings and today's is no different. I too found the Tao Te Ching in my twenties and it remained with me through many tumultuous years. It was the stream that lead me to the dharma. Thank you for reminding me! (Le Guin's translation is by far my favourite!) Warm bows.
Holy Kamoley! I was deeply influenced by the Tao Te Ching in my early twenties as well, but haven't looked at it in decades. When I went over my old journals a few years ago I could see its influence in that period of my life, though I didn't make the connection till this minute. I'm definitely going to check out the Ursula Le Guin PDF link you provide here... thanks very much!
Wonderful. From the shared sentiments about ocean swims to the 'ice cream' that I must try and the Tao recommendation. All of it. Thanks.
Thanks for recommending the Le Guin translation. It has been a long time since I have read the book and this will be a great way to rediscover it.
Really enjoyed reading about Le Guin's Tao The Ching. I'm looking forward to reading it ... slowly!

Thank you for this. I’m considering my needs and wants this summer, it seems. Here is serendipity with this piece and verse. Good words for my summer.
Can’t agree more with the prescription for swimming. :)
Thank you for your generosity of spirit, in your kitchen and most importantl for me, in your heart.
